Lauren Baker, a founder of Avania’s legacy company Boston Biomedical Associates in 2000 has had an extensive career in clinical research. Her tenure in the CRO industry began after running the corporate clinical research group for Boston Scientific. Prior to that she was a research assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and a professor in mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She remains a leader in clinical research in multiple areas including cardiovascular, neurovascular, orthopedics, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary. A licensed professional engineer, Baker holds a master’s and PhD in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in biomedical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and she performed her research in the Vascular Surgery Department at UMASS Medical School.
